A few years ago the government counted the population, or the number of people, living in Egypt. According to this 2006 census, more than half of the people in Egypt (41,629,341) live in rural areas or villages. The rest (30,949,689) live in urban areas or cities. Many villages in Egypt have a population of more than 10,000 people. These large villages are sometimes called “urban villages”.
Find out what can happen in ten years! Compare the population by governorate (muhafazah) with these data charts.
